Painted from memory and photos taken from a river cruise in Germany's Rhineland region. The sloping hills, low clouds and open river before me gave a sense of an awaiting quest, a trek similar to the hero's journey with a promising outcome. I wanted to bottle that feeling and also touch on the distinct German landscape. I included the vertical Roman vineyards that are so prevalent along the Rhine and its tributaries.
